The Subtle Voice of Guidance

The nose is to the animal what the intuition is to the spirit of men; it is the organ which enables the animal to detect what is far away and would otherwise be hidden.~~ from The Heart of the Hunter by Laurens van der Post

“Did you go get vaccinated,” I asked my son.  He was scheduled to get the H1N1 vaccine that week.  He teaches young children Irish dance and all the teachers were encouraged to get vaccinated.

“No. You’re going to think this is weird.”

“What happened,” I asked.  Being in his early twenties, I figured he skipped his early morning appointment because he was partying the night before.

“I dreamt that our house was being fumigated and I couldn’t breathe.  Then I woke up and the first thing that popped into my head was the vaccine.”   His voice was hesitant.  “I just had a feeling that I shouldn’t get vaccinated.”  He was quiet.

“Me… think that’s weird?  Do you remember who you’re talking to?” I started to laugh. (I conduct workshops teaching people to trust their inner guidance.)  “You woke up after the dream, had a gut feeling and followed it.  The more you notice you gut feelings or intuitive hits and follow the guidance, the clearer your guidance will become,” I said.

It turns out the vaccine they were giving that day was the nasal spray.  This method is not recommended for people with asthma.

My son has asthma; he also didn’t get the flu that year.

People often think intuitive guidance comes through loud and clear.  They expect to hear someone talking in their ear.  The reality is for most people, guidance is subtle.  It’s often a nudge, a feeling—one thought triggering another or an odd coincidence that leads you to a different conclusion.  If you’re willing to watch and listen for the little signs, these small vibes can impact every area of you life.

This week:  Notice those gut feelings, and act on those that feel right in your heart.
