Dragonflies-the Wings of Change

“Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass, I can appreciate persistence.” –Hal Borland

It was the last week of August and the yard was full of flowers, and usually a few bees, butterflies and an occasional dragonfly. Stepping into my yard, I was surrounded by a swarm of dragonflies, swooping around like dive bombers. I love dragonflies. Their shimmering colors and luminous glow are a treat for the eye. But, I had never seen such a throng. There must have been more than 75 to 100 swirling around my small garden. Their energy felt so frenzied, I thought possibly they were responding to the nasty weather front approaching the city. Their frenetic energy almost felt like fear. I decided to sit in a chair in the middle of the yard and just watch.

I thought maybe the dragonflies had a message for me. I was amazed how they zipped right past my face. I sat there for a half hour and discovered that they were not frenzied at all. Instead they were focused, moving swiftly to achieve their goal. They twisted and turned, swooping one way and then instantly changing directions until they caught a bug. They snapped at mosquitoes, gnats and flies. Each dragonfly worked alone, yet seemed to be connected on some level with the group. Within a half hour there were very few bugs visibly left in my yard. Soon only four dragonflies were left.

Two days earlier, I officially became an empty-nester. Both of my children are away at college. For me the dragonflies were a reminder that now is the time for me to focus on my goals and work with the determination of a feasting dragonfly.

Look around and open your heart. Have you noticed any spirit messages in nature?
This week: Be open to messages from spirit in nature.

Working from Ego or Spirit

Intuition will tell the thinking mind where to look next.– Jonas Salk

I received an email from a student in my oracle class.  As suggested in the class she was pulling an oracle card at the beginning of each day with the intent of receiving guidance for the day.  A friend of hers questioned whether using the deck on a daily basis for was a smart idea.  She felt that she would become dependent on the oracle deck and her guides—instead of herself.
An interesting question?????????????
For those not familiar with Oracle Cards, they are simply a tool to connect with your inner wisdom.  Oracle Decks generally have pictures and maybe a few words.  After a person pulls a card, I encourage them to check in with their gut and sense how the card relates to their life.  Pulling an oracle card each day is a way to strengthen you intuitive muscle.  The more we use our intuition, the  more we connect with our spirit.  We spend most of our days functioning from ego and “thinking” about situations.  This is just one way to help us function more from our inner wisdom instead of depending on our ego. I find that after years of including a card in my daily practice, for me, just the act of pulling the card centers me and connects me to my spirit.

This Week:  Try “playing” with an Oracle Deck and connect to your spirit!

Peace and Blessings,

Mary Jo

Morning Routine

Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. ~~ Steve Jobs

I’m not the most disciplined person when it comes to my morning routine.  For that matter, I’m someone who can get off track easily, so I have to work to be disciplined in most areas of my life. Given this struggle, my routine is a bit variable, besides the normal dressing and grooming, there are a few elements I try to keep in my routine.  These include a yoga stretch or core workout and a short mediation and prayer, sometimes it takes 30 to 45 minutes, other days it can be a five minute stretch and three minute meditation.  I follow this up with a good cup of coffee and I pull a card from one of my oracle decks.  The card is my way of getting some additional guidance for the day.  Last February, I was debating whether to apply for a scholarship for the Writers’ Workshop at Chautauqua.  I figured I was such a long shot, it wasn’t worth the effort, yet I kept feeling like I should fill it out.   While sipping my coffee, I pulled an oracle card, as I wondered about the long application.  The word on the card was TRUST.  It was about trusting ones intuition.  I followed the pull I was feeling and completed the application.  As I mailed it off, I smiled to myself thinking, it just might be possible.  In twelve days I leave for Chautauqua. I put aside my logical doubts, trusted my intuitive nudges and was rewarded with the scholarship.  When I’m having trouble listening to these nudges, oracle cards help me sort through the fog.  Oracle cards are a great way to tap into your inner wisdom.  If you’re interested in learning to use oracle cards to tap into your intuition, consider joining our class Oracle Readings…Connecting with Inner Wisdom on July 14th.

This Week:  Take a step to strengthen the voice of your intuitive wisdom.
