Hartley’s Premonition–Realized!

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.—Frederick Douglas

I’m not a big football fan. You won’t find me watching Monday night football.  So, when the championship game between the Saints and Vikings was on in my living room, I left the room. What eventually caught my interest was not the game but the comments by Garrett Hartley after the game.  The night before the big game, Hartley called his dad around 2 a.m. and said he had a feeling that he would kick a 40 yard field goal in the last few minutes of the game.  This feeling or premonition is exactly what happened.  Hartley won the game for the Saints by kicking a 40 yard field goal in overtime.   Many people get “feelings” about things….maybe about a job, a client to contact, a business to start, a book to write….but then nothing happens.  That could have been Hartley, if he didn’t do the work.  Having a feeling about winning the game would not have been enough, if he didn’t play hard…play his best.  He had to show up and do his work.  We all have gifts but if we don’t do the work, our gifts languish.  What happens when we have gifts and passions that we don’t develop through action?  They become ideas we have, things that we talk about…but they never take form, they don’t materialize.  To make your dreams reality, you have to do the work. Give birth to you intuitive nudges by taking action…one step at a time.  What passion do you have that you’re talking about, thinking about, but not really doing anything about?  Isn’t it time to take action?  All you need to do is to take the next step.

This Week:  Think about your intuitive nudges….and then take action…take the next best step.

Peace and Blessings,

Mary Jo

  1. Hi – I found your blog via the SCBWI-Illinois listserv and was drawn to it b/c I use wordpress, too:

So many on the listserv use blogspot, but I find wordpress blogs the easiest ones to leave comments on, not all those hoops to jump through.
I’m like you — I am not a football fan. I *am*, however, a huge fan of the city of New Orleans. I was down there a month ago to do a presentation at a children’s library, my husband joined me for the weekend afterwards and we happen to be there the Sunday the New Orleans Saints lost to Tampa Bay. I guess Hartley missed one, maybe two, or maybe even *three* field goals in that game? fans there were muttering about their AWFUL field goal kicker, how that kicker oughta be thrown off the team and so on. All to add to your sentiment, not only did Hartley work hard to be able to kick that field goal last Sunday, but he did so after suffering rejection and feeling like he’d failed. Inspirational. Go Saints!

  2. Thanks for this great post. I absolutely agree.

  3. I agree with you Beth, I find wordpress easier to use and with more options. I also have a blogspot blog http://www.helpingchildrencope.blogspot.com

Thanks for the additional info on Hartley. It goes to show that if you believe in something you just have to keep at it.

  4. Generally I do not post on blogs, but I would like to say that this post really forced me to do so, Excellent post!

  5. There’s good info here. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog. Keep up the good work mate!

I’m glad we met — this virtual thing is fun but there is still nothing like a good old fasioned face-to-vace encounter.
